Our team of eight 60 year olds did well scampering around Lake Winnipesaukee in 9 hours and 12 minutes. We finished 81st out of 123 and 3rd out of 4 in our geriatric age group. We also thoroughly trounced our fiercest rivals, the young pups, GFRC Mixed Seniors, who were still over the horizon as we crossed the finish line.

It was a hot day and just about everyone ran a little slower than we'd hoped for, but we still ran 13 minutes faster than last year. We had fun and everyone gave it his all. Thanks to fellow runners Ted Ridout, Bob Smith, Danny Rearick, Joe Curley, Hans Van Willigen, Bob Tomassini and John Shane, for being so dependable and flexible. We will return next year in full force.

We dedicated our run to the memory of Art Doyle who was killed in a car accident in August. Art was going to run the 5th leg and was one of our strongest runners. We ran with a vest with "Art" written on it and passed it along, runner to runner, all the way around the lake. We truly had Art with us all the way. (It was also ironic that our team number was No. 9 - Ted Williams number.) I had many conversations with other runners around the lake who had known and competed against Art for many years. It was a wonderful way to remember Art's many years as one of the top runners in the area. We truly miss him.
