Mixed Masters Dream Team Post Mortem

Congratulations, and thanks to each and every one of you for a fun day yesterday!!!

Referring to the email title, and the attachment provided, sorry for the macabre term, but post mortems are what we always did after customer escalations at Sun Microsystems... sort of an analysis-after-the-fact. In this case, it's nothing more than a comparison of guesstimated vs. actual.

Considering the July-August-type temperatures after we've enjoyed some nice cool runs, we all did awesome!

Some variances to all of our times are to be expected. However, note that Ken maintained the 7:45 per mile pace he thought he'd run(!), with a total run time of only 3 seconds slower than what he anticipated; and Ann Marie came in *faster* than estimated by 7 seconds, improving her pace time to 9:58! Eunice was next closest, and the heat can definitely account for the difference there.

The rest of us were further from our planned pace. Mostly due to required walk breaks and/or stops for water from support team-members on the course.

In fact, given that I can pretty much guarantee a total of 4-5 min. of those sorts of stops on my 10.5 run, I probably *was* running 8:15 pace (ah hem, when I was running)... Rick didn't know what he was getting himself into, poor dear soul!!, and I don't think he'll be asking for leg 3 in the future...

Jeff's been dealing with Bursitis in his heels for almost a year, and PT hasn't minimized the pain (so cortizone shots might be in his future)... It must have been high 80's by the time Mike was running, on streets with no shoulder, no shade, etc... Margaret had never seen her leg before that day (she'd seen some of the streets in that area, but not THOSE STREETS)... ;) Let's see, are there any more excuses I can pull out of the hat?

But between the difficulty of the legs people were running, being new to that leg or the relay at all, fatigue of being out in the hot sun for hours, exhaustion of running in high humidity and often bright sun, I guess we can accept the fact that we were the slowest GFRC team with the pride of a job well done. Most importantly, with a SMILE, as was evident on everyone's faces at dinner Saturday night.

Our goal was to have fun, and I'd say we accomplished that! Team training runs might be in order, if the goal were for time. Of course, that would require actually assembling the team months in advance... ;)

Eunice, I still have your lovely poison-green Winnipesauke T-shirt!
