President’s Message – December 1992
Jade & Berry? Or Green & Purple?
Jade and berry, berry and jade. Burn those colors into the depths of your consciousness. At our historic November meeting, they were selected by an overwhelming majority
(18), as our new club colors. They looked very much like green and purple to me. But Karen Lawrence, showing the patience all great teachers exhibit when working with the very slow-witted assured me they were jade and berry.
Ed Ginsberg, when told of the choice inquired: “What kind of berry?” That this question had never entered my mind, was enough to convince me I am terminally “color challenged.”
Karen and Tony Lee did a Herculean job of presenting our options. Their work was made unnecessarily difficult by the failure of a well-known purveyor of running goods (from Millis), to supply the promised samples. Working from a cut- and paste mock up, derived from a catalog they led us through a chromatic smorgasbord of possibilities, from an ultra conservative blue to… jade and berry. Afterwards, when Karen was congratulated for her fine work, she remarked: “If I’d known they’d go for that (j & b), I’d have brought in something REALLY wild!”
Soon you will receive a mailing about our initial purchase of new uniforms. To encourage members to adopt the new colors, the club voted to underwrite a one time offer of $10/member toward the purchase of a shorts & singlet- combination. So become the first in your neighborhood to frolic through the woods in the vibrant new GFTC colors!
Until hunting season ends, you might want to add a dash of blaze orange accessories as well.
Frolicking through the woods was the main objective for 11 GFTC members on November 21. A master’s team led by Jack O’Rourke, and a senior’s team captained by Tony Lee competed in the TAC National Masters 8K Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park. Jack’s team consisting of Rick Brodmerkle Bill Carroll, Dong Shim and Stan Gordon took 11th place in a very competitive race. Tony’s old-timers, made up of Bob Smith. Sal Citarella, Ned Price, Joe Curley and your humble scribbler took 6th in their category.
Congratulations to all.
