President’s Message – July/August 1992
GFTC Award Time

Thanks to the efforts of Cecile Gahan, our annual banquet was a big success. This was our first time at Ebeneezer’s in Framingham and, though the room was a little crowded, everyone found the surroundings congenial. As an added attraction, the final game of the NBA Championship was piped in on large screen TV during the meal. This spared many members the anxiety of having to make conversation during dinner.

Award recipients at the banquet were:

Ray Murphy- for many years of devoted service as the pianist at club oratorios.

Linda Jeffrey -for her fabulous St. Patrick’s Day Host Runs.

Lev Volfson- first recipient of GFTC “Rookie Of The Year” award, for enthusiastic participation in all club affairs, despite otherwise leading a life of apparent maturity and stability.

Stan Gordon, Mike Wagoner and Rich Busa -for innovations in the production of the Newsletter, including the Random Notes, the Phantom Editor and the award-winning Wayne Watch.

Rich Sullivan -for unstinting service as club philosopher and resident humorist; a man of uncompromising principle, he’ll let no embarrassment or blunder go unheralded.

Keith Moore- male GRANGPAW (Good Runner, Although Not a Grand Prix Award Winner) -arrives late for every Fun Run and then sets kamikaze pace, ran 2:46 in the heat at Boston.

Anne O’Reagan -female GRANGPAW -ran 1:32 at New Bedford half-marathon and won her age category in Back Bay 10K with a PR of 39:55.

Rich Chesmore. Lonny Townley -for continued outstanding success of The Terrible Ten, GFTC’s premier road race.

Lee Consoletti -for dedicated and skillful performance as Secretary; his minutes lend an aura of reason and dignity to our proceedings, to the constant amazement of those who were there.

Tom Abbott -for unflappable performance of his duties as Grand Prix Director, in the face of continuous threats on his life and his manhood.

The best runners of the year, as measured by performance in the Grand Prix series, were, for the women:
Margie Lee, Charlene Gaboriault, Karen Lawrence, Karin Oleski, Genoveva Matheus, Karen Baker and Phyllis Frothingham.

For the men we had:
Jack O’Rourke. Art Doyle. Dong Shim. Jamie Sarkisian, Ken Power. John Shane. Ed Ginsberg. Tony Lee and Ross Stacer.

Congratulations to all.
